Primary-sourced.
Editorially reviewed.
Decision-ready.

Research produced by AEI Intelligence is organised across specialised analytical tracks, combining primary-source evidence, editorial review, and decision-relevant analysis.

Three tracks.
One institutional standard.

Each track produces primary-sourced, editorially reviewed intelligence to a consistent framework — structured for decision-makers, not general readership.

Food systems, commodity markets, and rural economic development

This track produces intelligence for investors, development finance institutions, and policymakers focused on Africa's food and rural economy.

  • Commodity price dynamics and African export exposure
  • Food security, inflation, and consumer purchasing power
  • Agricultural credit, finance, and rural investment flows
  • Trade balance implications of agricultural performance

Our Research Process

How every brief
gets built

Every Intelligence Brief follows a structured research and editorial framework, designed to ensure analytical rigour, source integrity, and institutional publishing standards prior to distribution.

01

Primary Source Identification

Analysts identify all relevant primary sources — audited financial statements, official IMF and World Bank releases, central bank publications, and statutory filings. No aggregation at this stage.

02

Data Extraction & Verification

All quantitative data is extracted directly from primary documents and cross-verified against at least two independent primary sources. Discrepancies are flagged and resolved before analysis begins.

03

Analytical Framework

Analysts build the analytical framework — identifying the central paradox or risk dynamic, constructing the argument structure, and developing quantified risk thresholds where applicable.

04

Draft & Editorial Review

The full draft — including Executive Summary, Introduction, Analysis, Implications, and Risk Flag sections — is submitted to the AEI Intelligence editorial desk for review before any distribution.

05

Publication & Distribution

Approved briefs are formatted to institutional publishing standards, assigned to the relevant track and volume, and distributed to subscribers via the Intelligence Brief platform.

The standards every
brief is held to

AEI Intelligence publishes to a consistent set of editorial commitments — the same standards that define institutional intelligence publications globally.

Standard 01

Primary Sources Only

Every data point is sourced from audited financial statements, official IMF and World Bank releases, central bank publications, and statutory filings. No aggregation. No secondhand data. Every claim is traceable to a named primary document with a full citation.

Standard 02

Cross-Verification of Data

All quantitative data is cross-verified against at least two independent primary sources before inclusion. Where sources conflict, the discrepancy is disclosed in the brief and the preferred figure is explicitly justified with sourcing rationale.

Standard 03

Quantified Risk Framing

Risk assessments include specific quantitative thresholds and trigger conditions — not qualitative commentary alone. Institutional investors and analysts can stress-test their models directly against our risk parameters, which are drawn from primary source data.

Standard 04

Structured Analytical Architecture

Every brief follows a consistent structure: Executive Summary, Introduction, Analytical Scope, Context, Analysis, Implications, Risk & Uncertainty Flag, Sources. This ensures comparability across editions and tracks, and makes the briefs usable as reference documents.

Standard 05

Editorial Independence

AEI Intelligence editorial content is produced independently of commercial, political, or institutional influence. Partnership arrangements do not influence analytical conclusions or research priorities. Editorial and commercial functions are kept strictly separate at all times.

Standard 06

Corrections Policy

Errors identified after publication are corrected promptly. Corrections are logged with a clear description of what changed and why. Subscribers are notified of all material corrections to editions they have received. No silent edits.
